HISTORY OF SANTOLO BEACH

Santolo Beach is one of the coastal areas that has long played an important role in the lives of the people of South Garut, particularly in the districts of Cikelet and Pameungpeuk. In addition to being a marine tourism destination, Santolo Beach has also developed as an active traditional fishing port that continues to operate today.

Pantai Santolo Beach has long been an important part of the daily life of the South Garut community, especially those living in the Cikelet and Pameungpeuk areas. Besides being known as a marine tourism destination, Santolo Beach has grown into a traditional fishing harbor that remains active to this day.

For generations, local communities have relied on the fishing industry as their primary source of livelihood. Activities such as fishing, fish auctions, and net repair are common sights that reflect the strong coastal culture and the important role of fisheries in supporting the local economy.

Over time, Santolo Beach has become increasingly popular for its distinctive natural beauty. Its white sandy beaches, blue waters, and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean have made it one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Garut. This natural charm is complemented by the authentic lifestyle and traditions of the local coastal communities.

Beyond its natural attractions, Santolo Beach is home to several iconic landmarks, including Santolo Island, the historic connecting bridge, traditional fishing boat activities, and unique cultural phenomena found only in the area. The combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage gives Santolo Beach a unique identity that sets it apart from other coastal destinations.

Today, Santolo Beach continues to develop as a marine tourism destination that offers not only beautiful scenery but also authentic cultural experiences and a glimpse into the traditional way of life of South Garut’s coastal communities.
