SANTOLO ISLAND

Enjoy stunning ocean views and the peaceful coastal atmosphere of Santolo Island, one of the iconic marine tourism destinations in South Garut.

Santolo Island is a small island located on the southern side of the Santolo Beach area in Garut Regency, West Java, covering approximately 50 hectares. The island is one of South Garut’s most iconic marine tourism attractions, known for its beautiful ocean scenery, unspoiled coastal environment, and stretches of white sandy beaches that attract visitors throughout the year.

Unlike many beaches along the southern coast of Java that are characterized by black sand, Santolo Island features white sandy shores combined with breathtaking views of the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Its tranquil atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for relaxation, sightseeing, and photography.

Visitors can reach Santolo Island by crossing from Santolo Beach using local fishing boats. The crossing takes only a short time, with fares typically ranging from IDR 5,000 to IDR 10,000 per person, making it an affordable and enjoyable marine tourism experience.

Beyond its natural beauty, Santolo Island also holds historical significance. Remnants of the Dutch colonial era can still be found on the island, including an old pier, caves, and a lighthouse believed to have been built around 1850. During the colonial period, these facilities were used to support the transportation of plantation products such as coffee and rubber for export.

Although only parts of these structures remain today, they continue to offer educational and historical tourism value. Santolo Island also offers a variety of recreational activities, including swimming, boat rentals, banana boat rides, fishing, and enjoying spectacular sunrise and sunset views along the coast. In addition, the bridge connecting the mainland to the island has become a favorite spot for visitors to enjoy the scenery and capture memorable photographs. To enter the Santolo Beach tourism area, visitors typically pay an entrance fee of around IDR 10,000 on weekdays and IDR 15,000 during holidays. Additional costs may apply for parking and boat transportation to Santolo Island.
